Individual Funding Requests
Treatment not routinely funded by NHS Berkshire (Individual Funding Requests)
The NHS exists to serve the needs of all patients but also has a statutory duty not to exceed the resources allocated to it by central government. Some health care, medications and health treatments that people want are not automatically available from your local NHS. This is because we have to make tough decisions about what we can and can’t routinely fund. We do this with the aim of ensuring that care is fairly allocated to all patients within the Berkshire Area.
If a GP or other NHS clinicians feel that a patient would benefit from one of the treatments that NHS Berkshire does not routinely fund or procedure with limited clinical value (PLVC) and would like to apply for funding, then they are required to complete the NHS Berkshire’s ‘Individual Funding Request’ (IFR) form. Primary Care form or Secondary Care form.
In considering IFRs the PCT takes into consideration number of policies both locally agreed thresholds and policies recommended by MOBB and the Berkshire Priorities Committee. To ensure that fundng request meets the relevant criteria please ensure that these policy are referred to when you are making application for funding on behalf of a patient
For information on how the PCT processes IFR once applications are recieved form NHS clinician, pleaser refer to the NHS Berkshire’s IFR policy (please note that this policy is currently being reviewed).
If you wish to talk to someone at the PCT about how we make decisions about treatments, medicines or drugs then please email, the Individual Funding Requests Manager at: West Patients bw-pct.CRC@nhs.net or East Patients be-pct.becasereview@nhs.net or telephone 0118 9822 780.
